 The Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada

is seeking input on research priorities. Respond to their survey here.

Micro grants are awarded for organic research involving crops or livestock, for organic education such as on-farm field days and for the development of organic educational materials. Grants are open to anyone in North America. Typical grants range from $300-$1,500. The next application deadline is March 15, 2017.

Important new production and business tools are now available for organic and transitioning producers.

1. Organic Field Crop Handbook A new edition of this must have reference manual for growing field crops organically is now available. The book has been completely rewritten to reflect the growing science behind organic production and to reflect the shift is organic grain production from eastern Canada to the Prairie region. You can get your copy in person at Growing Quality Organic Grains at Ag Days (see above) or directly from Canadian Organic Growers. Cost is $45 + GST.

2. Green Manure Took Kit This free downloadable kit produced by the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada with funding from the Prairie Organic Grain Initiative has five modules that will help you understand green manures and how to choose the right green manure for your farm conditions. 3. 2017 Manitoba Cost of Production for Organic Field Crops This important business tool will help you decide if growing organic cereals and oilseeds makes economic sense. Download the Excel spreadsheet and customize the numbers for your farm. Need help understanding the tool?
