What is Passing on the Gift?
"As people share the offspring of their animals – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
Passing on the Gift creates a living cycle of sustainability that develops community and enhances self-esteem by allowing project partners to become donors." - Heifer International
Our Passing on the Gift Fund
Heifer has provided MFM with seed funds to start our Passing on the Gift (POG) fund. This fund provides bursaries to individuals needing financial assistance to participate in MFM programming. As the fund grows, we will begin making larger sums available as grants and loans to farmers for farm start up, expansion, research, and other activities.
MFM commits to investing 5% of revenue generated through our programming and fundraising activities to the POG fund. By the end of 2013, we expect to contribute an additional $4000 to this fund.
We need your help, please donate! We welcome contributions directly to the POG Fund as well as those that support MFM activities. Remember that 5% of all donations to MFM program activities will automatically support the POG fund. Contact us for information about how to donate.
People who receive POG funds, Passing on the Gift Recipients, pass on their gift with in-kind offerings (or cash contributions) choosing from a variety of creative ideas:
- Offering practical and necessary help to new or experienced producers.
- Offering training by leading an MFM workshop or presentation to future program participants
- Becoming a farm mentor
- Hosting program workshops, farm tours, or other events on his/her farm
- Donating livestock, plants, or seeds to new farmers
- Donating to the MFM POG fund
- Volunteering for MFM
The number of hours or value to be passed on depends on the amount of funding requested and the purpose of the funding. POG recipients must complete their pass on within 1-3 years. The MFM Passing on the Gift Committee reviews and approves POG agreements.
