Organic Marketing & Conference Coordination Assistant

Summer Position

This position is based at the Food Development Centre, 810 Phillips Street, Portage la Prairie, but students who live within 1.5 hours of Portage la Prairie will also be considered. Work at a home office is possible for at least part of the term. This is a summer full-time position for 20 weeks, 36 ¼ hours per week (start and end dates to be determined). Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Working with MAFRD and the University of Manitoba to organize an Organic Production Conference to take place February 18 and 19 2016. Specifically the student will:

  • help to develop and distribute sponsorship materials;

  • recruit sponsors;

  • liaise with conference speakers; and

  • help to organize conference logistics.

The student will also work with organic sector associations and retailers to help to develop and implement province-wide activities during Organic Week in September 2015.

Other project opportunities may also arise during the term of this position.

You must possess:

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • interpersonal skills;

  • customer service skills;

  • confidence, willingness, and ability to call and talk to people on the phone;

  • ability to work independently;

  • ability to travel (we provide vehicle); clean driving abstract required;

  • attention to detail; and

  • excellent computer skills using Windows and Microsoft Office programs.
