Fresh From the Field
Fresh From the Field is a new initiative of the Organic Food Council of Manitoba, which aims to reduce the barriers to growing and farming that newcomer, indigenous, and low-income communities face.
Fresh From the Field contacted newcomer service providers in Winnipeg to determine the growing needs of newcomer communities. After determining which newcomer groups and organizations were interested in follow-up, nine workshops and consultations were conducted, reaching a total of 140 newcomer participants. Workshops covered organic food production, the health and environmental benefits of organic food, how to access organic food, and farm mentorships in Manitoba.
Thanks to The Winnipeg Foundation for making this project possible.
